ESP - SPAIN
CALAFAT
Description Second permanent circuit built in Spain (the first one was Jarama); it was inaugurated on September 29th 1974 with race for Formula Seat 1800. On that day the track was still lacking in facilities and safery: i.e. run off areas were lower that track level. It’s a very windy circuit because its closeness to the sea and to the mountains laying behind. The circuit was closed in May 1982 because of bureaucratic problems; later it was reopened, probably in 1985.

Description (with a F.Seat 1800 in 1974)
Start is on the longest straight, where cars can reach 180 km/h - 110 mph. A slight left bend, that best drivers run flat out, leads to a challenghing right hairpin that went downhill. After that, there are a short stright, a very fast right bend, another straight and a left downhill bend, very difficult because of its gradient change. The track goes uphill: after two easy right bends there is a long ’S’ left - right - left to be run while accelerating. Another short straight downhill and there is a narrow and difficult right corner. After that, an uphill straight, a long right bend and a slight left bend (to be run flat out) that leads to main straight and finish line.

Description In February 1983 it seemed that it could have been reopened within 2 months. According to The GEL Motorsport it was reopened only in 1985.
Note that according to Autosprint length was 2300 m, different from length usually reported (2496 m), so I think than circuit was modified when it was reopened.
