(2006/06)
Description Proposed street circuit that should host a Champ Car race at the end of 2007 season, probably from November 16th to 18th (later it has been delayed on December 2nd 2007) during Speed Festival. This proposed circuit is in Phoenix town center, around Bank One Park Ball (a sporting area).
Map shown here shows preliminary proposal as it was shown by tv3nu television. As it is a preliminary proposal, official track length, direction and start/finish line are not known; length reported here is only approximated.

Immediately some problems came out:
  • On the circuit, at Buchanan Street and Lincoln Street there are tramlines (used also for industrial uses), same as at San José
  • Obstruction made by France family: they ownes ISC, that controls PIR (Phoenix International Raceway): after having lost in 2006 IRL race, they won’t be happy to see a ChampCar race in Phoenix, with so many spectators, just one week before Nascar race scheduled at PIR. ISC/Nascar boycott is justified because there is a law in Arizona that prevent from racing on public roads if noise is louder than 60 decibel.

Before June 15th 2006 court of first instance gave the reason to ChampCar and to Festival organizators and Phoenix County Council commission gave a temporary consent (County Council have to give final consent) and it allocated 15 million US Dollard for next Festival and 8 million US Dollars a year for next years.

Description On August 6th 2006 official website was opened and organizators revealed first official layout of the track: it’s not too different from preliminary unofficial draft issued last June, but there are a couple of news:
  • The circuit doesn’t go on 1st Avenue up to Jefferson Street, but at the junction with East Madison Avenue it goes right and it join the old preliminary circuit through 1st Street.
  • Pit lane is not along 7th Street, but on a small section of Lincoln Street. Close to pits there will be a "Suite" grandstand oriented towards pits and not towards the track.
Even if the controvercy with Phoenix International Raceway is still open, Champ Car has confirmed this event and it should be scheduled on November 18th 2007.
