Location Opatija (Abbazia in Italian) is a village in Istria (Istra in Croatian), on Kvarner Gulf (Kvarnerski zaljev in Croatian, Golfo del Quarnaro in Italian), few km South West of Rijeka (Fiume in Italian).
First edition of the race was in 1939, when this area was in Italy. From the end of Second World War to June 24th 1991 this area was in Yugoslavia
