LINAS-MONTLHÉRY
MONTLHÉRY
Not to be confused with Espace Plus
Description In addition to the normal history of the circuit, that can be easily found on websites reportes in sources section, there is also a nearly unknown story connected to the circuit, described by Raymond Gureme in his book Interdit aux nomades (in French, I don’t know if it has been translated into English. In 1939, the circuit was bought by the State and it had been outsourced to the Ministry of War. At first it was used for training soldiers with motorbikes and armored cars. In 1940 the site was transformed into an internment camp for nomads, both French and other nationalities, and it had been open until 1946. The author describes the heavy field conditions as a former internee from November 27th 1940 to October 1941. In spite of the war and the prison camp, somebody still thought of using the circuit for some races, and in June 1941 prisoners were forced to weed the track. I don’t know what happen later; of course, the author tells his personal drama and does not provide other indications.
