Description | At beginning of August 1983 Enzo Ferrari proposed to Ugo Vetere, Mayor of Rome, to organize a F.1 GP in Rome for brightening up motor sporting passion monopolized by football, thanks to recent victory of Roma football team. This idea was welcomed both by Rome Mayor and by Italian and International sport authorities. On October 21st 1983 Enzo Ferrari, during his usual press conference, announced that the Mayor, CSAI and Mr.Ecclestone agreed for racing a GP in October 1984 or in October 1985, not later. Immediately first protests arose, because somebody is considered antiecological. On July 14th 1984 FISA put Rome GP in F.1 1985 calendar as spare GP, but there is an Europe GP scheduled on September 22nd that could hide Rome GP. On December 19th 1984 F.1 Commission canceled Dallas GP and it replaced it with Europe GP, to be raced in Rome on October 13th 1985. On February 14th 1985 the circuit was approved by FISA inspectors with few variations. At the end of February polemics spread like wildfire: some parties were against because of ecological reasons. On March 15th there was no lawful number for voting in Town Council, but all parties, including ones that once had beed in favour, were unequivocally against the GP, probably also considering local elections scheduled on following May. The day after ACI president Mr.Rosario Alessi and CSAI president Mr.Fabrizio Serena announce to FISA the rejection and GP was raced at Brands Hatch. Technical organization was done by Maurizio Flammini and his organization, Flammini Racing: he himself thought that Rome GP should have been a race to be held only once, in order to make it an sole event. For more details about any single proposal, see below. At beginning of 2009 a F.1 GP was proposed, to be scheduled in 2011. For more details, see this page. In the same area Tre Fontane circuit was in use in 1928÷1931. |

Description | Direction was clockwise: it was reversed in order to about funnel bend after lake bridge. Finish line was uphill; for this reason starting grid was moved 250 m back, in a level section of Via Cristoforo Colombo that is not used for the circuit. Pits, paddock and a big tribune for 26000 spectators are obtained on the square in front of Palazzetto dello Sport (Basket Arena). Some chicanes are added in order to keep average speed around 150 km/h - 93 mph. As regard safety, both safety nets and triple armco barriers should be used. Besides "usual" cranes used on street circuits for removing cars from the track, some small electrical vehicles for service and safety needs should be used between armco and nets, in order to avoid to have them on the track. Few Preparation works are needed: some trees should be moved in Palazzetto dello Sport parking, a couple of flowerbeds and a median strip hundreds of meters long should be removed before Piazzale Marconi. As it’s a sole event, after the GP all these few works should be restored.

Description | After GP was assigned, a lot of work were made and some changes were made to the proposed circuit. Start line was moved on Via Cristoforo Colombo after the lake, at the intersection with Via Africa, in order to avoit an uphill start and to use a section of the road only for starting grid. Finish line was moved on the short straight in front opf pits. Return Hairpin (called «Due Ville», Two Villas) was moved forward in order to keep free the important crossing with Via dell’Oceano Atlantico and Via dell’Oceano Pacifico (both noth shown on my map), both used for deviating normal traffic. At the end of straight in front of the box, only 180 m long, «Curva del Fungo» (Mushroom corner) as reprofiled in order to link better the two straights; before here there was a rough change of gradient. Large bend after the lake was considered too fast and dangerous. As it was not possible to change it nor to add a safety run off area as it’s on a bridge, a chicane was added in the middle od the previous downhill straight. Just after, «Curva delle Poste» (Mail corner) went into a lateral part of Via Cristoforo Colombo, for having better run off areas. «Curvone del’Obelisco» (Obelisk hairpin) in Piazza Marconi was reprofiled too. «Variante del Parcheggio» (Parking chicane) was completely new. The faster section of the circuit should have been the straight before Chicane Nuvolari, where max speed should have been approx. 260 km/h - 161.5 mph. Tribunes should have been in front of the box, in the Obelisk area and at «Variante del Parcheggio» for a total of 55/60 thousands spectators; 60 thousand more spectators should have been placed on the grass, on the small hills close to straights by the side of Palazzetto dello Sport.
