Siracusa, Autodromo
Description Map derived from aerial photo shows old track as is today; once start/stop straight has some little curves. The ’S’ just after new hairpin was built after the track was closed for fitting to new track. First race was in Spring 1950, 1st Coppa d’Oro di Sicilia (Sicily Golden Cup), a race for Sport cars. Following years first F.1 event was held here (not championship race). Last F.1 race was in 1967, but according to Autosprint 48/1972, it was closed only in 1970.

Siracusa, Autodromo
Description In 1972 new Siracusa circuit was again proposed. The new circuit should have been used some section of the old circuit closed in 1970 (or 1967?), particularly the old grandstands made in reinforced concrete that could host up to 4000 spectators. Many works are necessary and Siracusa Automobil Club went on with funds allocated by local Councillorship of Tourism. CSAI declared that it would have given all funds available to the most important circuit, that is the permanent track near Palermo that should have hosted future Targa Florio. Construction started in 1973, but with a slighlty different layout and the track - still unfinished - was opened only in 2000!
