Description | Permanent track opened in 1957, after previous road circuit was closed because of Watkins Glen fatal crash occurred in 1952. The track was not developed: facilities have always been very simple because of hostility of local people, who have alwaya hoped a soon bankrupcy (source). In 1981 it nearly went bankrupt, but it was saved by some entrepreneurs, ’Friends of Bridgehampton’, that persuaded current owners, Carol Konner and Jerome Fisher (who had bought the land for 3 million Dollars of that time) to save the circuit. ’Friends of Bridgehampton’ didn’t improve facilities and they run it uintil beginning of 1990s, when a controvercy nearly risking again going bankrupt. Finally in 1997 the circuit was closed, then the new owner Robert M. Rubin converted this area into a residential one with a golf course. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
